In March 2020, I got very serious about making these ginger shots. I started making them for their immunity boosting benefits but I’ve come to really love their awakening, spiciness. It’s just the tart energy boost I need in the morning!

This is the base recipe I follow, but week to week it’s been different every time. Sometimes I add more ginger for extreme heat, sometimes I add turmeric for smooth earthiness and sometimes there are oranges and carrots for some sweetness. I’ve found that the apples add the perfect amount of liquid and sugar to make this a drinkable juice instead of something that needs to be watered down.

Try them for yourself and let me know what you think in the comments!

Me with my ginger hoard in March 2020.

Serves: 6 - 10 1 oz. shots
Total time: 10 min
Difficulty level: Wicked easy
Equipment: Juicer or blender (I use a Breville juicer)

You’ll need:
2 large ginger roots ( 4- 5 inches each)
3 large lemons
4 apples (any kind)
Optional: Chili (cayenne) powder

Let’s do it!

  • Starting with the apples, then the lemons and finally the ginger, juice all of the fruit in your juicer. I roughly chop up each fruit but I don’t bother with peeling the ginger and I include the lemon skin and the apple core. The juicer can handle all that rough stuff!

  • If you don’t have a juicer, you can juice the lemons by hand, then peel the ginger and blend it up with the apples and lemon juice in the blender. Just pour it through a sieve to get rid of all the pulp and you’re ready to drink!

  • Yield about 12 - 16 oz total depending on how juicy those fruits are. I drink a 1 or 2 oz shot every morning but you can also add it to a smoothy or a cocktail :)
