This Cherry Barbecue Sauce is one of my favorite recipes to make when it’s peak cherry season in July. I love serving this up on pork chops or ribs, but you could put it on anything from chicken wings to steak tips, or even use it as a pizza sauce!
Makes about 1 1/2 cups
Prep time: 10 min
Total time: 45 min
2 cups fresh cherries, pitted and chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small onion, diced (I use a grilled onion for smokey flavor)
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 - 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
LET’S DO IT!
Blend the cherries in a food processor until finely pureed. Transfer to a medium saucepan, add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil.
After it boils reduce the heat to a low and simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes until considerably thicker.
Stir frequently while simmering to keep sugar from sticking to the bottom of saucepan.
Let cool before serving. Option to blend the sauce again to make it super smooth, just be sure to let it cool for 15-20 minutes before blending it.
