CHERRY BBQ SAUCE

CHERRY BBQ SAUCE

This Cherry Barbecue Sauce is one of my favorite recipes to make when it’s peak cherry season in July. I love serving this up on pork chops or ribs, but you could put it on anything from chicken wings to steak tips, or even use it as a pizza sauce!

Makes about 1 1/2 cups
Prep time: 10 min
Total time: 45 min

You’ll need:
2 cups fresh cherries, pitted and chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small onion, diced (I use a grilled onion for smokey flavor)
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 - 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt

LET’S DO IT!

  • Blend the cherries in a food processor until finely pureed. Transfer to a medium saucepan, add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil.

  • After it boils reduce the heat to a low and simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes until considerably thicker.

  • Stir frequently while simmering to keep sugar from sticking to the bottom of saucepan.

  • Let cool before serving. Option to blend the sauce again to make it super smooth, just be sure to let it cool for 15-20 minutes before blending it.
